Freight Calculator

Freight cost calculator

Work out the chargeable weight (air) and CBM / revenue tonnes (sea LCL) from your cargo dimensions — the basis carriers actually price on. Then get a real quote for the rate.

Enter dimensions to calculate.

This calculates the chargeable basis carriers price on (the W/M basis — greater of CBM or weight in tonnes). It is not a price — actual rates depend on the lane, carrier, and timing.

Why chargeable weight matters

Carriers charge on whichever is greater — actual or volumetric weight (air), or CBM vs tonnes (sea LCL). Knowing your chargeable basis means no surprises when the quote arrives.

FAQ

Freight calculations — common questions

How is chargeable weight calculated for air freight?

Air freight uses the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is the cargo volume in cubic centimetres divided by 6000 (the IATA divisor), giving kilograms. Carriers charge on whichever is higher.

How is sea LCL freight measured?

Sea LCL uses the W/M (weight or measurement) basis — the greater of the cargo volume in cubic metres (CBM) or its weight in tonnes. This "revenue tonne" is what LCL rates are applied to.

Does this calculator give me a price?

No — it calculates the chargeable basis carriers price on (chargeable weight or revenue tonnes), not a rate. Actual prices depend on the lane, carrier, season, and surcharges. Request a quote for a real rate.

What is CBM?

CBM (cubic metre) is the volume of your cargo — length × width × height in metres. It is the key measure for sea LCL pricing and for comparing FCL vs LCL.
